Mohammed Aziz

Mohammed is the founding Chief Executive Officer of the Forum Against Islamophobia and Racism and the British Muslim Research Centre. He was appointed a Commissioner at the Commission for Racial Equality in January 2004 and a Commissioner at the Equality Opportunities Commission in 2005.

He completed his LLB (Hons) and LLM at UCL, University of London and was called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn in 1996. He has worked as a youth and community worker, research assistant and health advocacy officer, education social worker, schoolteacher and FE college lecturer, local government lawyer and policy/project development officer.

Presently Chair of the European Network Against RacismĀ , Mohammed is an advisor to the Muslim Council of Britain. He is also a member of the government’s steering group on the Commission for Equality and Human Rights, a board member of the European Network against Racism (ENAR), and trustee of several voluntary sector organisations including the East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre. Mohammed also sits on two national Honours Committees at the request of the Cabinet Office.

Mohammed specialises in religious discrimination and provides specialist advise in this area to various government departments and statutory agencies.

As lead consultant at FaithWise, Mohammed has recently completed a very large project with the EU with work in 10 countries, and contributed to two large pieces of work commissioned by the Attorney-General, Lord Goldsmith and the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, respectively. He is also currently working as part of a consortium delivering the equality strategy for the 2012 Olympics.
